Mrs. Wilma Jean Purvis, 84 of Bear Creek, N.C. died Monday, July 18, 2016 at Clapp's Nursing Center in Asheboro, N.C.
The visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Joyce Brady Chapel in Bennett, N.C. . The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Lee Kidd and Rev. Dr. Neal Jackson officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery.
Wilma was born in Chatham County in 1931, daughter of the late Gails Whitaker Welch and Nannie Jane Cox. She enjoyed membership at Beulah Baptist Church where she was actively involved for many years, teaching Sunday School and serving anywhere she was needed.
She was known for her love of gardening and canning as well as sewing. The greatest joy in Wilma's life was her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her three children, Anita Lahr and husband Mike of Asheboro, N.C., Charles Purvis and wife Debbie of Carthage, N.C. andGene Purvis and wife Amy of Franklinton, N.C. . Seven grandchildren, Ian Purvis and wife Leslie of Bear Creek, N.C., Steven Lahr and wife Season of High Point, N.C., Carla Neal and husband Adam of Pinehurst, N.C., Philip Lahr and wife Lindsey of Asheboro, N.C., Dana Purvis of Miami, Florida, Keri Purvis of Asheville, N.C. and Alli Purvis of Franklinton, N.C. . Two Great-grandchildren, Beckett Neal of Pinehurst, N.C. and Emsley Purvis of Bear Creek, N.C. and a host of family and friends.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to Beulah Baptist Church- Food Pantry 8454 Howard's Mill Road Bennett, N.C. 27208 or to Gideons International P.O. Box 181 Asheboro, N.C. 27208.
