Walter Hayes

Mr. Walter V. Hayes of Seagrove, N.C., died Friday, July 20, 2018. The Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22 from 6-8:00pm at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett, NC. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 23 at 2:00pm at Riverside Baptist Church in Seagrove NC, with Rev. Kenneth Bouldin and Rev. Gerald Hussey presiding.  Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by Randolph County Honor Guard.

Walter was born in Randolph County on September 20, 1930 to Oliver McKenzie Hayes and Minerva Ann Deaton. A lifelong resident of Seagrove, Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1953-1955, and worked as a poultry farmer. He loved the Peach Festival, Senior Water Aerobics at the YMCA, Breakfast with friends at Hardee’s, and his Men’s Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Maie Leonard Hayes; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. He is survived by daughters; Louise H Williams and Phillip of Bennett, NC, Mary H. Coble and Jimmy of Seagrove, NC; son, Vernon Hayes and Liz of Seagrove, NC; sister, Mittie Nall of Robbins, NC; grandchildren Michael Williams, Megan Coble, Kasey Coble; step-grandchildren Michael Loflin, Hannah Freeman, Sam Tate and Kaleigh Tate; and 1 great grandchild, Kendall Freeman.
