Velna Garner

Velna Lucille Caviness Garner, 92 of Robbins passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Beulah Baptist Church, where she was a member, with Dr. Neal Jackson and Rev. Robert Kidd presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Garner was born on November 24, 1926 to Joseph Robert and Bertha Cheek Caviness. She loved her church and was a member of the Meekness Sunday School Class. She enjoyed word find books and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a homemaker and especially loved cooking for her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Velna was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Bud Garner; brother, Carlton Caviness, and great-grandson, Corey Wilkes.

She is survived by: daughters, Wanda Ellington (Steve) and Debora Ritter (Ronnie); son, Ronald Garner (Faye); brother-in-law, Jimmie Garner; sister-in-law, Janelle Garner; grandchildren, Joseph Garner, Bradley Garner, Chad Ellington, Tiffany Ellington, Stephanie Saunders; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Robert, Justin, Dakota, and Hayden Garner, Jackson, Thomas, and Julia Ellington, Chandler, Ashton, Christian, and Cayden Wilkes.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 12, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett and other times at the family home.
