Velma Welch

March 20, 1929 — December 14, 2015

Mrs. Velma Lee Brown Welch, 86, of Bennett, N.C., died Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Coventry House in Siler City. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday (12/17/2015) at the Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Strider and John Wayne Phillips officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service.

Velma was born in Randolph County in 1929, daughter of the late Albert Stacey Brown and Ethel Mae Cox. She retired from the John Plant Company in Ramseur, N.C. after many years of service.  Velma was a member of Bennett Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, Acteens leader and a member of the  Adult Choir. She loved her church and her church family. She was known for her cooking and gardening talents, especially with her flowers. Velma’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Nuby Cecil Welch, Three brothers Glenn, Bill and Larry Brown and one sister Catherine B. Binkley.

She is survived by her son, Harold N. Welch and wife Ellen of Asheboro, Four sisters, Irene B. McNeill of Ramseur, N.C., Ruby B. Branson and Brenda B. Albright both of Siler City, N.C. and Linda B. Brown of Asheboro, N.C., Two brothers, Ronnie Brown and Junior Brown both of Bennett, N.C., Three Grandchildren, Angela Campbell and husband Dwayne of Bear Creek, N.C., Lisa Brady and husband Mike of Bennett, N.C. and Brett Welch and wife Felicia of Indianapolis, Indiana., Seven Great-grandchildren and Four Great- Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family requests in Lieu of Flowers that donations be made to the Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund   P.O. Box 91  Bennett, N.C.  27208 or to Liberty Home Care and Hospice   P.O. Box 66  Sanford, N.C. 27331.
