Mr. Theodore "Ted" Franklin Phillips, Sr., 91, of Bennett, N.C., died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at High Falls Wesleyan Church with Rev. Roger Riffe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will recieve friends in the church fellowship hall following the funeral service.
Ted was born in Moore County, N.C. in 1924, son of the late William E. Phillips and Tempa Viola Brady. He served with the United States Army in World War II as a member of the 3rd Army/ 4th Armored Division/10th Armored Infantry Division. During his service in combat Ted was wounded twice and was awarded two Purple Hearts, The Silver and Bronze Stars for Valor as well as three bronze service stars representing the Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes . He returned home to his wife Bronna on February 2, 1946. Working his life as a poultry farmer and raising his family was dear to Ted's heart. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed many adventures seeing the country on his motorcycle. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post 7318 in Southern Pines and was honored for his service there on February 6, 2016.
He enjoyed membership at High Falls Wesleyan, serving as the caretaker of the cemetery and Church Treasurer. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters and one grandson Braxton Phillips. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Bronna K. Phillips of the home, Two sons, Ted Phillips, Jr. and wife Sylvia of Bennett, Darrell Phillips of Bennett, Two daughters, Brenda P. Moon and husband Tim of Bennett and Linda P. Horton and husband Dr. Bob Horton of Pinehurst. Ten grandchildren, Justin and Heather Moon, Natalie Forte, G.R. Horton, Blair Horton, Jordan Phillips, Brian, Kevin and Shannon Phillips and Brian Hurley. Eight Great-grandchildren, Wyatt George Forte, Carson Phillips, Jacob, Hannah and Sam Phillips, Maddie and Jack Phillips and Alexandra HUrley and a host of family and friends.
