Shirley Mae Nichols Beck, age 81, of Robbins went to be with her Lord and Savior the 26 th of May, 2018. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening (5/29/2018) from 6 -8 p.m. at the Joyce – Brady Chapel in Bennett and at other times at her home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday (5/30/2018) at Bethel Church of God in Seagrove with Pastor Larry May presiding. Burial will immediately follow at Waddell Memorial Chapel in Bennett.
A native of Moore County, Mrs. Beck was born in Cumberland County in 1937, daughter of the late Cledge and Hattie Giles Nichols. She owned and operated a daycare for 20+ years and was known throughout the community as “Mama Beck”. She loved the outdoors, gardening cooking and working in her flowers as she could not be idle or content staying inside.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by six brothers.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Rev. Robert Mack Beck of the home; children Vance Beck and wife, Wanda, of Asheboro; Tim Beck and wife, Donna, of Seagrove; Vickie Jackson and husband, Mickey, of Robbins; Nathan Beck and wife, Shondra, of Highfalls; sister Sylvia Sheffield of Ramseur; brother Roy Nichols of Robbins; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She lived a life of service to others, always putting others above herself. “Mama Beck” epitomized 1 Corinthians 13:13, “There are three things that will endure – faith, hope, and love – and the greatest of these is love.”
