Rev. David Allen Thomas, Sr. , 80, of Siler City went home to be with his Lord and Savior 1-12-18 peacefully after a short battle with Alzheimers.
A native of New Bern, NC, Reverend Thomas was born on July 23, 1937 to the late Lee Roy Thomas and Effie Gray Gaskins Thomas. Rev. Thomas was called to serve the Lord at the early age of 15 and was very active in his Christian experience at his home church in New Bern. He followed his father and brothers in the construction business while mastering the trade. He continued his construction trade for a number of years while bivocationally pastoring small churches.
He was ordained as a Southern Baptist Minister by Beulah Baptist Church in Bennett, NC with the Dr. Curtis Barbery officiating and continuing to be his confidant and mentor. He was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Seminary, Hendersonville, NC and attended South Eastern Seminary. Since that time, he pastored several churches with his last pastorates being Cornerstone Baptist Church in Carbonton, NC and First Baptist Church in Seagrove, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gerarld and wife Mary, and James A. Thomas all of New Bern, NC and a son-in-law, Richard Childs of the United States Marine Corp. of Houston, TX and Larry Wayne Cockman of Bear Creek, NC and brother-in-law W.C. Pate of New Bern, N.C.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Jean French Thomas, Son, David A. Thomas, Jr. (Deidra Lundy Thomas or DeeDee) of Louisburg, NC, Son, Jack Charles Thomas (Debbie Jackson Thomas) of Mint Hill, NC, Daughters, Leah Thomas MIller (Michael) of Fl., Lori Thomas Cockman, Lana M. Thomas and Lara Thomas Davis (Robert) all of Siler City,two brothers; L.R."Pete" Thomas and wife Jean, John Thomas and wife Susan all of New Bern; two sisters; Lovie Stilley and husband Graham and Shirley Pate also of New Bern, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will recieve family and friends at Beulah Baptist Church, Bennett, NC on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 12:00-1:50. The funeral wil be at 2:00 with the Dr. Curtis Barbery and the Dr. Neil Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beulah Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Randolph County.
