Peggy Phillips

Peggy Marie Powers Phillips, 91, of Bennett, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Pastor George Townsend and Dr. Ron Chaney presiding. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service. Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open from 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 for friends to sign the register.

Peggy was born in Randolph County on March 26, 1931 to Bessie Mae Boyd Powers and Ulysses Marvin Powers. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church for 72 years where she had served in many capacities. Peggy was a homemaker and enjoyed doing for others in need. She loved fishing and spending time with her family and friends. “Groovy Granny” was her nickname, as in her younger years she would often be seen about on her motorcycle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Phillips and son-in-law, Charles Hackney.

Peggy is survived by her daughters, Patricia Phillips Hackney and Pam Phillips Craven (Kelly), both of Bennett; grandchildren, Tony Hackney (Tara), of Robbins, Jerry Hackney (Kathy), of Bennett, Drew Hackney (Maggie), of Siler City and Kyla Craven, of Bennett; great-grandchildren, Jacy Hackney, Finnlie Hackney and Karver Hackney; honorary grandchildren, Yianni Kakouras and Kosta Kakouras and a host of family and friends.

Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1745 Fall Creek Church Rd., Bennett, NC 27208.
