Mr. Nuby Cecil Welch, 91, of Bennett, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Coventry House in Siler City, N.C. . The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at the Bennett Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Strider and John Wayne Phillips officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery, with Full Military Honors provided by The Randolph County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends in the church narthex for one hour prior to the funeral and afterwards in the fellowship hall.
Nuby was born in Chatham County in 1924, son of the late Joe Welch and Ada Scott Welch. He enjoyed membership at Bennett Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member. During World War II, Nuby proudly served in the U.S. Army with the 541 st Airborne Squadron, rising to the rank of Corporal. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the outdoors. He retired from Burlington Industries after many years of service working as a loom fixer .
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Lynn, Lester, Frank, Howard, Porter, Henry and Ted.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Velma Lee Brown Welch of the home, One son, Harold Welch and wife Ellen of Asheboro, One sister, Nellie Brewer of Bennett, N.C., Three Grandchildren, Angela Campbell and husband Dwayne of Bear Creek, Lisa Brady and husband Mike of Bennett and Brett Welch and wife Felicia of Indianapolis, Indiana. Seven Great-grandchildren and Four Great-Greatgrandchildren.
