Mary Smith

Mary Dell Johnson Smith passed away at 6:30 on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the UNC Hospice House in Pittsboro. She was married to the late Ralph Smith. She worked at Glendale for many years. She loved her family and her church. Mary Dell was the daughter of the late James Dewey Johnson and the late Nancy Moody Johnson. She was born on September 20, 1935 in Chatham County.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Dell was preceded in death by her brothers, James William Johnson, of Staley, NC and Elmer Douglas Johnson, of Las Vegas, NV; sister Marie Thomas of Broadway, NC and grandson, Chad Smith, of Bear Creek, NC.

She is survived by her sons, Billy Joe Smith and wife, Jeanette and Everett Lee Smith and wife, Bonita, all of Bear Creek, NC; sister, Frances “Shorty” Jones, of Graham, NC; grandchildren, Chris Smith, Justin Smith and fiancé Allison Armstrong and Nicholas Smith, all of Bear Creek, NC; sister-in-law, Nadine Johnson, Staley, NC; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Darrell Garner presiding. Friends may sign the register at Joyce-Brady Chapel on Saturday, May 29, 2021 from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
