Lucy Phillips Pugh 91, on Monday March 10, 2014 returned home to her Savior Jesus Christ, to a joyous reunion with her husband Willard, parents Ella and George Phillips, and her 10 brothers and sisters. Lucy passed away in Bennett, with her children by her side, in her home in which she was born and raised and where she married Willard. Lucy's only regret was that she was leaving her family and friends to whom she loved so much and wished to tell one last good-bye.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 1 pm at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Webb & John Wayne Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Lucy was a Chatham County native and was not only a member but also a granddaughter of the UDC. Lucy joined the Coast Guard during WWII, and was proud to serve her country. A country that she and Willard loved so much that they visited all 50 states, to which she always said that it's a beautiful world we were blessed to live in. Lucy was a member of the old Bennett Christian Church that no longer stands today it was the place where she was baptized as a young lady.
Left to mourn her loss, are her sons Ronnie and Daryel Pugh of Bennett, and her daughter Lili and her husband John Onufryk also her two grandsons Jonathan and Sean Onufryk. Lucy is also survived by a multitude of nephews and nieces and great, and great-great nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6-8 pm at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham St., Bennett, NC 27208 and other times at her home. You may offer online condolences at www.joycebradychapel.com
