Lionel Gilliland

Lionel Dorsett Gilliland, 87, of Goldston passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Rex Hospital. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Garner presiding. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00-1:45 p.m. and after the service in the fellowship hall. Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 1:00-5:00 for friends to sign the register.

Lionel was born in Chatham County on January 15, 1936 to Leo and Alice Hilliard Gilliland. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a poultry farmer. He enjoyed hunting and playing cards. He loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Camilla R. Gilliland; sister, Vivian Petty and brother, Ronald Gilliland.

Lionel is survived by his daughters, Lisa Denkins (Bruce), of Goldston and Susan Denise (Forrest), of Fuquay-Varina; brother, J.B. Gilliland (Jackie), of Goldston; grandchildren, Jake and Elizabeth Denise; step-grandson, Brian Denkins and a host of family and friends.
