Leah Short

Leah Brown Peace Short, 91, of Bennett, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 surrounded by her family. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Jason Whitehurst, John Phillips and Rev. Tim Strider presiding. The family will receive friends from 3:00-3:45 pm in the church Narthex before the service and at other times at the home of Melissa Thomas. The viewing room at Joyce-Brady Chapel will be open on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 10:00 am-1:30 p.m.

Leah was born in Randolph County on March 10, 1932 to Reuben and Melissa Purvis Brown. She was a member of Bennett Baptist Church where she served as an Acteens leader and sang in the choir for many years. She worked in the hosiery industry for 50 years. Her greatest joy came from time spent with family.

In addition to her parents, Leah was preceded in death by husbands, Byron Peace and Clarence Short and brothers, Wilburn, Stacy, J.H. and Clifton Brown.

She is survived by daughters, Melissa Thomas, of Siler City and Beth Maness (Timmy), of Asheboro; grandchildren, Kelly Koonts (Shane), of Archdale and Natalie Powers (Michael), of Siler City; great-grandchildren, Bryson Adelman, William and Andrew Koonts, Leah Kathryn and Riley Anne Powers; step-daughters, Kathy Owens (Pat) and Deanna Dangerfield (Keith) and families; step-son, Alan Short (Elizabeth) and family; sisters-in-law, Mary Etta Brown and Jearline Brown;  many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
