Mr. Lacy “Wayne” Jones, 87, of Bennett died Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Strider and Rev. Edwin Moore presiding. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall after the service.
Wayne was born in Chatham County, N.C. in 1930, son of the late Clina Henry Jones and Leona Phillips Jones. He served proudly in the United States Air Force. He earned a B.A. degree from Elon University and taught sixth grade at Bennett Elementary for 28 years. Upon his retirement from teaching he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier and retired fully after 13 years. Being a member of Bennett Baptist, he served as a deacon as well as directing the choir for 30 years never missing a Sunday.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law Reva and Bill Owens, brother and sister-in-law Ray and Shirley Jones and sister and brother-in-law Geneva and Lynn Saunders.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Moore Jones of the home, Sons, Phillip Jones and wife Tamara of Jacksonville, Florida and Timothy “Tim” Jones and wife Nina of Bennett, N.C.; Three brothers, Howard Jones and wife Betty and Dwight Jones and wife Ruby all of Bennett and Gary Jones and wife Donna of Asheboro, N.C.; Six grandchildren, Four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
