Howard Jones

Howard Kenneth Jones, 82, of Bennett, passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family. The outdoor funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Bennett Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Dr. Jason Whitehurst, John Phillips, and Pastor Edwin Moore presiding. Speakers will be set up for those who wish to remain in their vehicles. Friends may bring a chair and sit outside for the service. The body will lie in state at Joyce-Brady Chapel on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm for those wishing to sign the register and pay their respects.

Howard was born in Chatham County, on October 20, 1937 to Clina Henry Jones and Leona Alice Phillips Jones. He was a former member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and trustee. Howard worked as a maintenance mechanic at Eveready for 36 years and was a poultry and tobacco farmer. He enjoyed fishing in his pond and sitting on the porch watching his grandchildren play sports and music. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed the annual family beach trip and being surrounded by love and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Geneva Saunders, and brothers, Wayne Jones and Ray Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Betty Coble Jones; daughters, Deborah Threatt (Billy) and Kim Fuquay (Ricky), son, Kenneth Jones (Natasha); brothers, Dwight Jones (Ruby) and Gary Jones (Donna); grandchildren, Howard Threatt (Michelle), Sarah Theatt (Gage Hall), Avery Jones (Kaci), Grayson Jones, Camden Fuquay, Kelton Fuquay, and Delaney Fuquay, great-grandchildren, Mallory Threatt and Ada Mae Jones (due in March 2021), and a host of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Wayne Phillips Scholarship Fund at First Bank, P.O. Box 98, Bennett, NC 27208.
