Herman Ray Cheek, 74, of Bennett, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022 at his home. He was born in Randolph County on May 22, 1947 to Myrtle Lee Garner and Henry Roe Cheek. Herman was a member of Mt. Zion UMC and was the first employee of Moore’s Machine Company, retiring after 39 years of dedicated service as an engineer. He was an avid hunter and liked skeet shooting at Deep River. He enjoyed anything outdoors, fast cars, farming, cows, the beach, watching grass grow, reading and watching westerns. He loved his children and grandchildren and especially adored his wife.
Herman is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Ann Cheek, of the home; children, Julia Cheek Tripp and husband, Garland (PeeWee) Tripp, Jr., of Pittsboro, Danny Ray Cheek and wife, Amy Dixon Cheek, of Bennett and Garrett Roe Cheek and wife, Stacy Carraway Cheek, of Bear Creek; sisters, Irene Cheek Davis, of Seagrove, Clara Mae Cheek Lucas and husband, Darrell, of Asheboro and Ruby Cheek Moore and husband, Eugene of Sanford; eight grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Joyce-Brady Chapel from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 and other times at the family home. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Mt. Zion UMC with Chaplin Sam Garris and Youth Pastor Jody Maness presiding. Burial will follow in the Cheek Lonesome Pine Cemetery.
