Gilbert Leonard Poindexter

Gilbert Leonard Poindexter, 91, of Siler City, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Randolph Hospice House. The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church, with Pastor Patrick Fuller presiding. Military Honors will be provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Gilbert was born in Surry County on December 3, 1931 to Richard Leonard Poindexter and Alma Pilson Poindexter. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Moon’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was a retired business owner, heavy equipment operator and superintendent. Gilbert loved traveling in his motor home and working with wood. He treasured spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Gilbert Poindexter, Jr.; grandson, Michael Smith and two sisters.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of 73 years, Daisy Geraldine Poindexter; children, Donna Crocket (Denny), of Woodlawn, VA , Doug Poindexter (Cindy), of Siler City, Glen Poindexter (Debbie), of Siler City  and Cheryl Watson (Kermit), of Grifton, NC; sister, Betty Duggins, of Asheboro; granddaughter, Danielle Smith, of Lexington; great-grandson, Taylor Smith, of Cocoa, FL and a host of family and friends.
