Mr. Charlie William Wood, 46, of Robbins, died Saturday, March 14, 2020 at FirstHealth Hospice & Palliative Care in Pinehurst. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at the Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett with Pastor Eric Combs presiding. The family will receive friends at Joyce-Brady Chapel for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday and at other times at their home. Burial will immediately follow at Cross Hill Cemetery in Carthage.
Charlie was born in Lee County, N.C. in 1973, son of the late Charles Wesley Wood and Geraldine Elliot Wood. He worked for 10 years at Riley Paving serving as a pilot truck driver. Being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed the UNC Tarheels, Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes and the Atlanta Braves. He coached his children in multiple sports, enjoyed fishing and most of all time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Jean Wood of the home; children, Amber Cagle (Shawn Saunders) of Carthage, Richard Matthew Pope (Kourtney) of Robbins, Brandon Wood(Emily Williams) also of Robbins and Travis Baker of Sanford. Two brothers; Jimmy Wood(Diane) of Whispering Pines, David Wood(Susan) of Cameron; Two sisters, Vivian Evans (Scott) of Tramway and Angel Wood of Cameron; Seven grandchildren; Nicholas Gonzales, Elijah Saunders, Joseph “J.W.” Saunders, Joshua Pope, Rhianna Pope, Harmony Pope, Honesty Pope, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends. In addition to flowers donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
