Brenda Gaines

Mrs. Brenda Lee Bates Gaines, 55, of Bear Creek, N.C., died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at her home. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyce – Brady Chapel in Bennett. Preacher Johnny Lewis will offer words of comfort to family and friends near the conclusion of the visitation. No funeral service will be held.

Brenda was born in Muskingum County, Ohio in 1962, daughter of Fred Bates and Dixie Ginter Dean. She worked most of her life in retail sales. Brenda loved animals of all kinds, especially horses. The great outdoors and camping with her family brought much joy to her life. She loved people in general and was known for being big hearted and quick to help anyone in need. She loved her family and was passionate about the time spent with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Travis Thorla and daughter Jessica Myers as well as one sister, Amber Bates and loving grandparents Ruth “Neenie” and Meade Ginter.

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, David Holt of the home, step-children Devin Bean and husband Jason of Sanford; June Blanks and husband Rodney of South Boston, Va. And David Holt and wife Kate of Sanford; brother Dusty Dean of Zanesville, Ohio; grandchildren, Cali, Cody, Dusty, Hunter, Kathleen and William; her niece, Kaitlyn Dean and special friends Penny and Krissy.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
