Mr. Arnold “Wayne” Hayes, 78, of Asheboro, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyce – Brady Chapel in Bennett. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Bennett, with Rev. Don Edwards presiding. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
Wayne was born in Randolph County in 1938, son of the late James Fletcher Hayes and Janie Katherine Davis Hayes. Early in life he worked in textiles, but retired from the Maintenance Department at Randolph Community College after many years of dedicated service. Wayne was a man of many passions, from motorcycle riding to deer hunting and enjoying the outdoors. His talents in fixing anything were well known and all done with the finesse of a Master Craftsman. He loved working with wood and building things to be treasured for friends and family. Wayne will be sorely missed by the family he adored and a void will long remain with the Morning Coffee Club at Bojangles. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Fred Hayes and one sister Faye Powers.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Cox Hayes of the home; son, Mike Hayes and wife Donna of Asheboro; daughter, Angie Goins and husband Kevin of Sophia; three sisters, Bonnie Evans of Greensboro, Ruby Brady and Phyllis Hammonds both of Asheboro; six grandchildren; Michael Hayes, D.J. Isley, Erica Hayes, Danielle East, Kristen Grooms and Drew Grooms; six great-grandchildren; Travis East, Sadie Goss, Anderson Hayes, Jackson East, Charlotte Hayes and Cohen Isley and a host of family and friends.
